Orphanage
Los Alamos is SendMe Refuge's beautiful 5 acre orphanage property. We work with locally agencies to help bring in kids in need from about 5 years old to 10 years old. Also, when we are in other communities ministering and a bad situation is brought to our attention pertaining to the kids of a family, we offer the solution of taking in the kids for a period of time to lessen a tense and bad situation. Doing so takes the kids out of situations full of neglect and abuse.
Once at Los Alamos, SendMe Refuge has two full time house parents, a husband and wife, and a cook/cleaner ready to serve these kids. The grounds are always ready for kids to play on the playground, play soccer on the soccer field, or potentially even learn about the different types of farms we have at Los Alamos. SendMe Refuge then tries to get the kids plugged in to the local school system making sure they do not miss a beat in their education.
Discipleship
Keeping up a 5 acre property is no part time job. SendMe Refuge employees 3 local men to be care takers of the grounds. Once a week we gather together with our house parents, workers, cook, and translators to break open the word of God and study different topics. Anything from creation to why did Jesus come to any questions the workers may have. We all look at what the Bible has to say about each topic and learn together.
Through this discipleship time we have seen many light bulb moments with our workers and even amongst ourselves. We have seen radical changes in family life and family values within our workers families and our workers themselves since starting this discipleship time with them. One verse that keeps coming up is 1 Corinthians 13:4 "Love is patient..." and when dealing with people who grew up with a skewed view of the gospel, patience is a must have with this discipleship program!
Youth Events
Los Alamos is set up to host a variety of different events. One type we love doing is youth events for the local youth. Just to use what God has provided through Los Alamos as a venue to host local youth to play games, provide a meal, and share the Good News with them is a huge blessing!
