CHIQUIHUITE

Partnership

SendMe Refuge has partnered with a select few individuals in the town on the volcano, Chiquihuite (Chick-Kee-Wee-Tay). We have partnered with them to start many different farms such as honey bees, blueberries, coffee, avocados, fruit trees, chickens, sheep, and vegetable plants. SendMe Refuge provides all the front end materials to help make each farm a success. This includes materials to build buildings, plants, fertilizer, feed, etc. to ensure the success of the farm. We then come along side to teach how to make the farming more of a success with different techniques to nurish the plants/animals and how to properly harvest the produce.

Discipleship

This partnership has allowed us to earn the trust of the local people of Chiquihuite and to build a relationship with them. The next step was then to begin discipling these guys and training them in the Word of God. We believe that you can't truly love someone if you don't help them meet physical needs while presenting the Gospel. But the inverse is true as well, you can not truly love someone if you do not share the Gospel with someone when you meet their physical needs. We use the meeting of their physical needs to earn their trust. We use the trust to earn the right to share the Gospel with them and then disciple them. This looks like meeting with them on a weekly basis to read through the bible, discuss, and answer questions.

Cause and Effect

Because of the partnership with SendMe Refuge, the locals we work with are able to work the ground, harvest produce, and sell at the market. These farms are designed to financially help the people by selling the produce, but also to be paid for doing odd end jobs around the farm. This additional income for these families allows them to be able to afford to continue putting their kids through higher education and making sure their family does not go hungry at night. The final point we would like to get this project to is where it can self sustain itself to cash flow enough to buy its own fertilizer, buy new plants, and buy new waves of chickens. This would teach the people how to properly manage a farm and keep a consistent income for their family.

How Does This Effect SendMe Refuge?

Through this partnership, once items go to market or are sold, SendMe Refuge splits the profits 50/50 with those who are in this program. This is a way to not only help give financial strength to the family involved but also to SendMe Refuge to have the ability to keep doing more.

Is this something you would like to help get started?
SendMe Refuge has many families who need this farming discipleship program to have additional income to feed their families and send their kids on to higher education.
